Chuvashia Leader Named

President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday nominated senior Chuvashia official Mikhail Ignatyev as the republic’s next president, Interfax reported.

Ignatyev, 48, who has worked in the local government since 2002, will replace Nikolai Fyodorov, who governed the republic since 1993 but was not shortlisted for reappointment this year, in line with Medvedev’s policy to limit regional leaders to three terms in office. Medvedev’s appointment needs to be confirmed by local lawmakers.
