A group of armed men attacked a driver in downtown Moscow, causing him to crash into two vehicles as he tried to escape.
"Three unidentified men with Caucasus features ran up to a Toyota that was waiting in rush-hour traffic near 10 Zhitnaya Ulitsa, smashed the car's windows with what appeared to be a hand drill and a pistol handle, after which they shot inside the car with an unidentified weapon and fled," police told Interfax on Thursday.
The 30-year-old driver, a resident of South Ossetia, was not injured but accidentally crashed into two cars as he tried to escape the attackers.
The incident happened in broad daylight Wednesday between the Oktyabrskaya and Dobryninskaya metro stations, on the same street as the Justice and Interior ministries.
Police are searching for the attackers and have opened a criminal case on hooliganism charges, which carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.
