Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry discussed possible cooperation in the fight against Syrian terrorists during phone talks this Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported in an official statement.
Lavrov stressed that Syrian U.S.-oriented anti-government forces needed to dissociate themselves as soon as possible from the Jabhat al-Nusra group, a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
In addition to Syria, the Russian foreign minister and his U.S. counterpart discussed the situation in Ukraine, the statement said.
Lavrov also expressed his condolences after the mass-shooting at an LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, which left 49 people dead.
