Moscow Metro Construction Workers Strike Over 5 Months Unpaid Wages

Construction workers working on the Moscow metro have gone on strike, citing five months of unpaid wages, the MediaZona news website reported Friday.

Several dozen migrant workers gathered near the office of the Ingeocom construction company to protest, according to the Dozhd television channel.

Spokesman for the Trade Union of Migrant Workers Renat Karimov told Dozhd that the company informed him that the non-payment of wages was due to lack of funds.

In response to this, he said that workers will stop going to work, but he stopped short of calling it a strike.

The amount of withheld wages for every worker stands at more than 100,000 rubles ($1,400). Karimov said that staff will only return to work when they are paid what they are owed.
