Moscow Mother Throws Baby Into Garbage Disposal Chute

Police in Moscow have detained a woman for allegedly throwing her newborn baby into a garbage-disposal chute, the Investigative Committee said in a statement Sunday.

The baby — who survived the fall — was found by a sanitation worker when the man was cleaning a garbage storage unit in a residential building in southeastern Moscow on Sunday morning, the statement said.

An ambulance rushed the baby to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment, the Investigative Committee said, without elaborating on the child's condition.

The mother faces attempted murder charges, the statement said.
