Ukraine Officials Say Suspected Killers of Pro-Russian Reporter Detained

Oles Buzina

KIEV — Prosecutors in Ukraine's capital say they have detained two people suspected of murdering a journalist known for his pro-Russian views.

The Kiev Prosecutor's Office said Thursday that the suspects are in their mid-20s and are residents of the city, but gave no further details.

Oles Buzina, a reporter who regularly aired views critical of Ukraine's government on Russian television, was shot dead near his home in central Kiev in mid-April.

Speculation was rife at the time of Buzina's killing that he may have been targeted by vigilante nationalists. Authorities said the journalist's murder might have been connected to his work.

Publicly expressing sympathies for Russia has become taboo in Ukraine amid the surge of patriotism fueled by the war in the east of the country against Moscow-backed separatists.
