Moscow Ballet Star Sergei Polunin in Stunning Hozier Video

Sergei Polunin / Facebook

A video of a Moscow ballet star dancing along to Hozier's "Take Me to Church" has gained more than 1.8 million views since it was posted online earlier this week.

Ukrainian-born Sergei Polunin gives a captivating interpretation of the Irish singer's hit in the four-minute-long clip, which was directed by American photographer David LaChapelle and uploaded to YouTube on Monday.

Dressed in nothing but nude pants, Polunin is shown leaping around a simple-looking studio with high ceilings and large windows that look out onto a green forest. The tattooed dancer also performs a number of pirouettes during the video.

Polunin, who performs with Moscow's Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater, earlier danced with the British Royal Ballet, where he was made the company's youngest ever principal dancer at the age of 21.

Hozier has sold millions of records globally since he released "Take Me to Church" last fall.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
