Wipeout Lets China's Li Coast to 500 Meters Speed Skating Victory

SOCHI — China's Li Jianrou won a farcical 500 meters final in short track speed skating Thursday that saw Britain's Elise Christie disqualified after wiping out two competitors.

Skating on her own after Christie caused the second-lap crash, the four-time world champion Li coasted home to claim a first Olympic gold in a winning time of 45.263 seconds.

After picking themselves up, Vancouver 500 meter bronze medalist Arianna Fontana of Italy won the silver in 51.250, with the bronze going to world silver medalist Park Seung-hi of South Korea in 54.207.
