The Alexandrinsky Theater, St. Petersburg. Christian Bickel

257 years ago today, on Sept. 10, 1756, the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg was founded by a decree signed by Empress Elizabeth. Its repertoire included drama and comedy and it became the most visited theater in the city. It is now considered to be the national theater of Russia.
