Russian Physicist Joins Houston Drilling Firm

WASHINGTON — Anatoli Borissov, a Russian-born physicist who has pioneered new methods of drilling for oil, has joined the Houston-based drilling technology firm BlueFire Equipment Corporation as chief operating officer, the company announced Monday.

Borissov previously headed BlueFire's research department where he helped develop a time-and-money saving "polycrystalline diamond cutter" that provides higher rates of penetration and runs longer in "hard rock formations and shales," according to the company's website.

"I am thrilled to rejoin the BlueFire team and have the opportunity to focus on additional technological breakthroughs such as our revolutionary PDC drill bit," said Borissov, a widely published researcher who has worked at several universities in the U.S.
