UEC to Bid in Tender

United Engine Corp. intends to bid in a planned tender by India's railroads for the design, manufacture and delivery of gas turbine locomotives, a leader at UEC parent company Oboronprom said, Interfax reported.

"We are waiting for the announcement of the tender and intend to participate in it as part of a consortium of Russian companies,"  said Pavel Osin, first deputy CEO of Oboronprom. "RZD Trading House, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, will represent Russia in the tender."

He said that in contrast to Russian bidders, foreign competitors "do not have a working prototype of a gas turbine locomotive that meets the Indian requirements."  Oboronprom's public relations department said information from Indian officials confirms that India's railroads require up to 500 gas turbine locomotives. The deadline for developing and building a prototype will be one year from the signing of the contract.
