Belarus Bids for Rostselmash

The Belarussian government wants to buy Russian farm machinery manufacturer Rostselmash, a news agency there quoted Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko as saying, Interfax reported Friday.

"I told [Russian Prime Minister Dmitry] Medvedev that we want to buy Rostselmash, that we have good samples, and we could fine-tune them together, and then we could set up a powerful holding company to manufacture harvesters for the entire Union," Lukashenko said, referring to the Russian-Belarussian Union.

Belarus has sent out conflicting signals about a alliance between Rostselmash and Belarussian farm machinery producer Gomselmash. Belarussian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said in June that an alliance between Rostselmash and Gomselmash was possible.
