Unemployment, Sales Rise

Russia's unemployment rate rose in January to a nine-month high of 6.6 percent, data released by the State Statistics Service showed Friday.

The jobless rate increased from 6.1 percent the previous month. Retail sales climbed 6.8 percent from the same period last year, after a 9.5 percent rise in the previous month, the service said in an e-mailed statement.

Disposable incomes advanced 2.3 percent. Capital investment jumped 15.6 percent, more than twice the 7 percent forecast.
