Qatar in Yamal LNG Talks

DOHA, Qatar — Russia plans to be a "major player" on the LNG market in five or six years through Novatek's Yamal liquefied natural gas project, Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko said Sunday. The possibility of Qatar joining the project has been discussed, he said in a conference in Doha.

Qatar is interested in being an effective partner with Russia to develop the Yamal project, Qatari Energy Minister Mohammed Al-Sada said in Doha. "We are active in the discussions and negotiations with our partners," he said. Qatar is "very much interested generally in investment in oil and petrochemicals."
