One Killed in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA — Unknown assailants have killed a civilian and injured two people including a police officer in Dagestan.

Police spokesman Vyacheslav Gasanov said the assailants opened fire late Monday on a passing vehicle carrying the police officer and two others in the provincial capital, Makhachkala.

Gasanov also said an explosion took place early Tuesday in a suburb near Makhachkala, where an unidentified person detonated a bomb planted near a home. No injuries were reported.
