Parrot Thief Jailed

An Amur region resident with a criminal record for theft has been jailed for nine months for swiping a parrot from its cage in a cafe while intoxicated.

Lyudmila Tashlykova, 32, was sentenced in connection with the February theft of the budgerigar worth 2,500 rubles ($90), prosecutors said Wednesday.

The Amur court initially sentenced Tashlykova, who has previously served three prison terms for theft, to 18 months but reduced that to nine on appeal.
