Party Registration Criticism

The Foreign Ministry on Thursday said foreign criticism of a decision to deny registration to the liberal opposition Party of People's Freedom ahead of the December State Duma election was inappropriate and unfounded.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that the United States was "disappointed" by the Justice Ministry's refusal to register the party.

"We consider these statements inappropriate and unfounded," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement. He did not mention any specific country.
