Tula Mayor Sacked

The Tula legislature, controlled by the United Russia party, voted at an extraordinary meeting Wednesday to sack city Mayor Alisa Tolkachyova for "negligence," RIA-Novosti said.

Tolkachyova, 43, expelled from United Russia in November, pledged to sue over her removal, which she said was done when she was on sick leave, a time when firing is not allowed. She also said the reasons for her sacking were "not true."

The removal of Tolkachyova, an ex-Liberal Democratic Party member appointed mayor by the local legislature last year, was backed by Tula region Governor Vyacheslav Dudka, Interfax said.
