Singer Rues Yukos Letter

Pop star Alexander Buinov, one of 50 celebrities who in 2005 signed a letter demanding prosecution for then-Yukos head Mikhail Khodorkovsky, told Radio Liberty on Friday that he regrets the move.

Buinov said he only signed the letter because he did not know much about Khodorkovsky and his case — which critics say is politically motivated — at the time. Buinov’s statement followed that of ex-ballerina Anastasia Volochkova, who has also signed the letter, but said last week that she was “tricked” into it and now supports Khodorkovsky.
