Muslim Prayer in Prison

Moscow’s pretrial detention prison Matrosskaya Tishina remodeled one of the office rooms into a prayer room for Muslims, Interfax reported Friday.

The Butyrskaya pretrial prison was the first in the city to install such a room, opening it along with an Islam study class a week ahead of Matrosskaya Tishina.

Almost a third of Matrosskaya Tishina inmates are Muslims, Federal Prison Service spokesman Sergei Tsygankov said.
