VIENNA — The European Union should support the South Stream gas pipeline from Russia across the Black Sea to Europe, said Russian Gas Association president Valery Yazev at The Energy Exchange’s European Gas Conference 2011 in Vienna on Wednesday.
The EU supports Nabucco and Nord Stream. South Stream is competing with the EU-backed Nabucco venture.
South Stream chairman Marcel Kramer said the pipeline, led by Gazprom and Eni, would like a level playing field with competing projects. “We are not asking for preferential treatment,” Kramer said.
