Missing Trawler Victims

The bodies of two people in diving suits washed ashore on Sakhalin Island on Tuesday, supporting fears that a trawler missing in the Strait of Tartary last week had indeed sunk, Interfax reported.

The victims were not identified, but investigators think they worked on the Partnyor vessel, which disappeared with a crew of 14 Russian sailors after sending a distress call, the report said.

A search operation was called off Monday. Earlier reports said the Cambodian-flagged vessel might have sent out the distress signal to disguise its escape from the area, where it had been caught poaching last year.
