The government has asked the European Union to help settle a dispute over Surgutneftegaz’s ownership in Hungarian refiner MOL, news service MTI said, citing a government statement.
Surgut, whose registration as a MOL shareholder has so far been blocked, “as a shareholder could boost MOL’s market position in the area of raw material supply,” according to the statement citing Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin.
The EU will analyze the situation, MTI said last week, citing EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger.
