Cop Killer Suspects Held

Three people suspected of carrying out a series of attacks on Astrakhan police this summer were detained in the city, Interfax reported Sunday, citing an unidentified law enforcement source.

The identities of suspects were not disclosed, but the source said one of them had a powerful homemade bomb in his possession, and another had two hand grenades.

Two officers were killed and six wounded in three attacks in July and August in Astrakhan. The suspected group of three assailants also took away guns from some of their victims.

Last month, local police identified the attackers as two brothers from Kazakhstan, aged 36 and 38, and a 20-year-old ethnic Tatar, all local residents.
