Band Summoned Over Song

The Moscow electro-punk band Barto may face extremism charges over anti-police lyrics they recited at a rally in defense of the Khimki forest on Pushkin Square on Aug. 22, Novaya Gazeta reported.

The song, called “Gotov” (Ready), includes the lyrics: “I’m ready? Are you ready to torch cops’ cars in the night?”

Band members have been summoned to Moscow police headquarters on Ulitsa Petrovka in the coming days to “give explanations” about the song, frontwoman Maria Lyubicheva said.

Investigators are considering filing extremism charges, punishable with up to two years in prison, against the band, Lyubicheva said. Police had no immediate comment on the case.
