Karelia Leader Confirmed

Andrei Nelidov, appointed by President Dmitry Medvedev to lead Karelia, was confirmed by local lawmakers at a special session convened in the republic’s National Theater on Wednesday, Interfax reported.

The legislature’s press office did not explain the venue choice, but noted that the lawmakers were on vacation, which they had to interrupt for the vote.
