A woman who gave birth on the Moscow metro has been given a year-long pass for unlimited travel on the underground, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Thursday.
Svetlana Melkova started experiencing contractions while traveling on the subway last month and had to refer to staff at the Kuzminki metro station on the city's Purple Line, the report said.
She ended up giving birth to a daughter at the metro station with staff successfully helping to deliver the baby, RIA reported.
To commemorate the unusual birth, Melkova has been gifted a Troika travel card that guarantees unlimited travel on the metro for a year, the head of the city's subway, Dmitry Pegov, was quoted as saying by RIA.
She was also given a gift card to buy something for her baby, whom she has named Ulyana, the report said.
