U. S. Fellowships Available

A U. S. fellowship program is accepting applications from candidates in the former Soviet Union interested in post-graduate studies in the areas of business, economics, law and public administration.


The Edmund S. Muskie Fellowship Program will award 150 grants for the 1993-94 academic year. The $7 million annual program is funded by the Freedom Support Act, which President George Bush signed Tuesday. It pays for student's tuition, fees, transportation and includes a living allowance.


Candidates must be residents of


Russia or one of the former republics, fluent in English and under the age of 40. They must also have an undergraduate degree and at least two years of professional-work experience.


The program was named the Benjamin Franklin Fellowship program when it was offered last spring after approval of an appropriation by the U. S. Congress. About 2, 200 submitted applications last spring for 1992-93.
