Sergei Popov has been appointed vice president of European investment banking and will be responsible for the oil and gas sectors of the CIS and Europe for Salomon Brothers. Popov formerly was the director and acting co-head of the natural resources group at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.

The ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY OF RUSSIA will have a ball to raise money for charity Nov. 29. Members can reserve their places until Nov. 7 when the remaining seats will be offered to the public. The ball costs $125 per person, but a $100 discount is offered to those who book a full 10-person table. The cost includes a five-course meal, entertainment and drinks during the meal. The AMERICAN WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION will have its fourth annual Holiday Harvest Charity Craft Fair from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the composer's hall at the Radisson Slavjanskaya Hotel, 2 Berezhkovskaya Naberezhnaya. Sales will be in rubles only. Admission to the fair is a donation of canned foods, toys or money. The proceeds from the sale will be given to selected Russian charities. Simply say "crisis line," leave your phone number with the pager service and a counselor will return your call.





Those wishing to donate to the RED CROSS WINTER EMERGENCY APPEAL may call the Moscow delegation of the International Red Cross at 126-7751 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. workdays. The Red Cross is raising money to buy food and warm clothing for some of the 31 million Russians who live below the poverty level.





UNITED WAY MOSCOW, a U.S.-based charity organization, is looking for volunteers to help in the following areas: helping elderly and disabled people in their homes, teaching English, translating from English to Russian and vice-versa, doing handicrafts with children and doing fund-raising and public relations work for Russian charities.
