A man dressed in a tracksuit regulated traffic in place of police near Moscow's Universitet metro station Tuesday, where a three-kilometer traffic jam was recorded, the Interfax news agency reported.
The volunteer had a whistle and a police rod, the report said, and drivers were following his instructions. He told Interfax that he worked for the company carrying out the reconstruction of a nearby underpass.
The man actively helped control traffic for half an hour, managing to reduce traffic by about half a kilometer in both directions, the Federal News Agency website reported. Then traffic police arrived on the scene and the man was led away from the road, Moscow police representatives were cited by Interfax as saying Tuesday.
The jam started to ease soon after, Interfax reported.
