Foreign Ministry Urges Russians to Avoid Georgia

The Foreign Ministry has issued a recommendation to Russian citizens to avoid traveling to Georgia because local authorities prosecute foreigners who visit the breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, RIA-Novosti reported Wednesday.

People who travel to the two regions, labeled “occupied territories” by Tbilisi, without permission from Georgian authorities face huge fines and even jail time, the ministry said.
