Farmers Get Support

MOSCOW () -- The Russian government has set up a new corporation designed to support farmers by increasing the state's role in the country's agricultural commodities market, a top government official announced Monday.

First Deputy Agriculture Minister Magomedtagir Abdulbasirov told a news conference Monday that the Federal Food Corporation would offer farmers a minimum price for their products while seeking to improve distribution and reap a profit for the federal budget. He said the corporation would trade in meat, milk, sugar, wheat, wool, eggs, sunflower and soya.
