City Hall wants to capitalize on its partial victory over the Rechnik neighborhood by turning the territory it managed to reclaim from the homeowners into a park zone.
City Hall’s ecological department announced a tender to redevelop 21.7 hectares of the Moskvoretsky Park previously housing 22 Rechnik buildings, RIA-Novosti reported.
The "ecological rehabilitation” of the territory should include removing rubbish left by what is described in the tender as “illegally built real estate,” as well as planting new trees and closing off the territory from motor transport.
The dispute over the legality of the Rechnik neighborhood, which started in the 1950s, is ongoing. City Hall partially razed the settlement in January but was stopped from further demolition by the federal authorities.
