Moscow Residents Warned to Keep Their Cool During Weekend Heatwave

Moscow is forecast to experience dangerously high temperatures this weekend, the RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing the "Fobos" weather center.

Meteorologists are predicting temperatures of up to 31 degrees Celsius ?€” not far below Moscow's record temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, set in 1951.

?€?The air temperature will be above 30 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday, which could have serious health consequences for some,?€? deputy chief of Moscow's emergency aid agency EMERCOM Andrei Mishenko said, the TASS news agency reported.

He added that there will be an increased risk of fires in forests and at picnic areas.

The city?€™s emergency services will be on heightened alert over the weekend, particularly at swimming locations, TASS reported.

?€?We are expecting a large increase in incidents at bathing areas, especially in places where swimming is forbidden," Mishenko said, TASS reported.

Everyone is urged to be cautious and stay safe during the heatwave.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly at the start of next week.
