Russian Politician Wants TripAdvisor Investigated for Calling Crimea Ukrainian

Maxim Stulov / Vedomosti

State Duma Deputy Oleg Mikheyev has sent an official request to the Prosecutor General's Office, asking that they investigate TripAdvisor after the travel company defined Crimea on a map as a subject of Ukraine, rather than Russia, the state-run TASS news agency reported Friday.

Mikheyev, a representative of the A Just Russia party, said that this constitutes “inappropriate behavior” by the company on Russian territory, TASS reported. TripAdvisor conducts business in Russia through their website tripadvisor.ru

?€?I believe that the participation of commercial organizations in political activity, especially that which opposes the interests of Russia, is inappropriate behavior on Russian territory,?€? the lawmaker said.

Mikheyev said in the document that the matter had been brought to his attention by online tourism outlet tourprom.ru.
