Rising temperatures may bring sleet to Moscow this week, the Rusnovosti news website reported on Wednesday.
Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading meteorology expert at the Fobos weather monitoring center, said that temperatures will rise to two degrees above zero early Wednesday, turning snowfall into sleet.
The sharp change in the weather is not expected to cause serious problems, as forecasters predict higher temperatures in the afternoon. However, it will lead to treacherous conditions on roads and pavements, so pedestrians and drivers are advised to take extra care.
At the end of 2010, heavy spells of sleet hit the capital, causing disruptions to airport services and power supplies at the city's train stations.
