A Russian-Turkish cultural center in Moscow announced on Monday that it was shutting down after years of operation.
The Russian-Turkish Scientific Center at Moscow's Library of Foreign Literature “does not exist anymore,” the organization said in a statement on its website.
The center stressed that its employees were ?€?unaware of the reasons for the closing of the center,?€? and addressed all inquiries to the library administration. But the shutting down comes at a time when Russian-Turkish relations have been crumbling over Turkey's shooting down of a Russian Su-24 bomber near on the Turkish-Syrian border.
The cultural center has cancelled all of its Turkish language courses, student advisory programs, lectures and conferences, the statement said.
An American culture center at the library also closed its doors in mid-September, though it reopened a month later inside the U.S. Embassy.
