Kozin became popular in the 1930s with hits such as "Autumn's Transparent Morning" and "Your Friendly Look, So Simple and Tender."
In 1944 Kozin was arrested and sentenced to eight years in a gulag camp in Kolyma in northern Russia. After his release Kozin refused on principle to return to Moscow, instead settling in Magadan, where he lived until his death
