Moscow Police Announce Bust of Terror Cell

Moscow police said Monday that they had broken up a terrorist cell that was actively recruiting members at city mosques and detained six suspects.

The six suspects, who were not identified, belong to the Islamic Rebirth Party, which is banned by the Supreme Court as a terrorist organization, and a raid on their place of residence found nine grenades, weapons, ammunition and extremist literature, police said.

"Search operations resulted in the finding of leaders and active members of the organization who were conducting active recruiting at mosques in Moscow and also distributing extremist literature and drawing other people into illegal activity," police said in a statement.

Further details were not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
