If you don’t like to tie yourself down to one particular style of music, then Ivan Alexeyev, better known as Noize MC, might just be the guy for you. The Russian rapper, who covers just about everything from punk and rock to breakbeat, hip-hop and reggae will perform this Saturday at Club Tochka.
Originally from the Smolensk region, Alexeyev moved to Moscow in 2002 to study. It was as a student that he gained fame as a rapper, winning several freestyle battles.
He also worked as a DJ and it was the feedback and bad microphones in clubs that inspired him to name himself Noize MC.
At his last show at Tochka, Alexeyev, 24, wowed fans and organizers of the concert with his stage performance.
“Noize MC sang and improvised on stage for more than four hours without a single break!” said Tochka’s Karina Vasilevskaya in an e-mail interview.
“The concert sold out completely, the hall was packed. I wonder how such a young artist can bring together so many people,” she said.
“Whether I’m tired or I’ve had a long day, it doesn’t matter, strength will always come to me from somewhere,” said Noize MC in quotes posted on his web site. “I don’t actually remember a performance where energy has failed me.”
Alexeyev will play songs from his album “Greatest Hits Vol. 1,” which despite the name is a debut album. He also contributed a number of songs to the soundtrack of “Rozygrysh,” or “The Send-Up,” a teen film that he starred in last year about a rebellious musician.
His song “Za Zakrytoi Dveryu” or “Behind the Closed Door” ranked 10th in Russian MTV’s 100 best hits of 2007 and that helped get him a record contract with Universal.
With a new album coming out in spring, Noize MC is tipped to be one of Russia’s top rap stars.
