6,000 Prepare to Reenact WWII March

A dress rehearsal for a historical Red Army parade will be staged on Red Square on Nov. 5 at the end of a long holiday weekend.

More than 6,000 participants will march in preparation for the 71st anniversary of a historical parade that saw Red Army soldiers cross Red Square as they headed for the front during World War II, Interfax reported Monday, citing City Hall.

The scheduling of the dress rehearsal on Nov. 5, a nonworking day because it falls at the end of the National Unity Day holiday on Nov. 4, means that participants will cause minimal disruption to traffic in central Moscow.

The official parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 7.

Fifty-seven military veterans who took part in the original parade on Nov. 7, 1941, remain alive in Moscow, and 36 of them will attend next week's parade, Interfax said.
