A Museum With a Mission: Chronicling the History of the Gulag

The Gulag Museum, which began as the passionate vocation of historian and camp survivor Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko in 2001, has just moved from its small, cramped space on Ulitsa Petrovka to a large building reconstructed especially for it.

Here visitors come face-to-face with the dark pages in Soviet history. But here, too, they learn how the human spirit can survive even in the worst conditions.
