Hearing for Russian Opposition Leader Navalny Put Off Until May 13

Alexei Navalny

A Moscow court has postponed a hearing to review a suspended sentence for opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Navalny was convicted in December of fraud and given a 3 1/2-year suspended sentence, while his brother was sent to prison, on charges of defrauding a French cosmetics company.

Prosecutors have appealed to convert Navalny's suspended sentence into prison time, citing his recent misdemeanors such as when Navalny was jailed for 15 days for campaigning on the metro for an unauthorized rally.

The district court on Thursday delayed the hearing until May 13 after Navalny argued that he has not been served the court papers.

Navalny said on Twitter that he did not receive any correspondence because his post office had not been informed that he is no longer under house arrest.
