Death Toll From Fire at Rehab Center Rises to 9

The death toll from a fire at a drug rehabilitation center in the eastern Altai region has reached nine people, the local Investigative Committee said.

Two co-founders of the Chisty List, or Clean Leaf, charity organization that ran the center in the village of Krasilovo have been detained on suspicion of criminal negligence, the committee said Tuesday in an online statement.

Police are trying to determine whether the fire, which also injured six people, was caused by negligence or arson, the report said.
