36-Hour Oil Leak at Trebs

NARYAN-MAR, Nenets Autonomous District — An accident leading to an oil spill occurred April 20 at the Trebs field, which is being developed by Bashneft, RIA-Novosti reported Sunday, citing the local office of the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The leak began Friday night around 5:30 p.m. Moscow time during work on one of the exploratory wells, resulting in the uncontrolled release of oil, a ministry spokesman said.

The flow of oil lasted more than a day, being stanched only at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported.
