Jazz Stars Come for Butman Fest

A host of top foreign and Russian jazz musicians will play this weekend at Igor Butman's annual Triumph of Jazz festival at the Moscow International House of Music.

This year's guests include New Orleans jazz musician Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, who performed at the White House last week as part of the Black History month celebrations with his group Orleans Avenue and famed U.S. pianist David Garfield.

Russian jazz pianist Yakov Okun will also play, joining up again with New York double bassist Ben Street and Billy Drummond. The three released a CD last year called "New York Encounter."

Butman's own orchestra will as usual also take part in the festival.

The Triumph of Jazz festival is on Sat. and Sun. Moscow International House of Music, 52 Kosmodamianskaya Naberezhnaya, Bldg. 8. Metro Paveletskaya. Tel. 730-4350.
