Edvard Radzinsky, a prominent writer and playwright, crashed his car into an oncoming vehicle while driving in the wrong lane, killing a female passenger in the other car, RIA-Novosti Monday, citing Moscow region police.
The accident occurred 5:25 p.m. Sunday on the Moscow Small Ring road when Radzinsky, 74, veered his Volvo into the wrong lane and struck a Nissan X-Trail SUV, the report said.
Radzinsky and the 25-year-old driver of the SUV escaped uninjured, but a 24-year-old woman in the backseat of the SUV died.
Police said an investigation has been opened and Radzinsky might face up to five years in prison if charged and convicted of vehicular manslaughter.
Radzinsky told Komsomolskaya Pravda in an published Monday that he "feels bad" about the death and that he usually uses his personal driver when he travels. "But he had the day off. That's why I was driving," he said.
