KALUGA — YAPP Automotive Parts of China on Wednesday opened a $20 million plant in Kaluga for the making of gas tanks and lines and related parts.
"Our products are already being supplied to Volkswagen's plant in Kaluga for Volkswagen, Skoda Fabia and Octavia automobiles," YAPP general manager So Deng Hua said during the opening.
Hua said the Kaluga plant can make 250,000 fuel tanks annually, but if the project is successful he is prepared to open another line with 200,000-tank capacity.
This is YAPP's first factory in Russia. The facility is located in the Grabtsevo industrial park just outside Kaluga alongside the Magna and Volkswagen plant there. Kaluga Governor Anatoly Artamonov said Grabtsevo anticipates the opening of a plant by China's Fuyao Glass that will make automotive windows.
