Retired General Jailed

A retired army general was sentenced to seven years in prison for accepting a bribe of 700,000 rubles ($24,400) during his tenure as the chief of the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the mid-2000s, Interfax reported Tuesday.

Anatoly Bashlakov was arrested in the courtroom after a Moscow military court passed his verdict, the report said, without elaborating on what the bribe was for.

It remained unclear whether Bashlakov would appeal. He was transferred to head the Defense Ministry's department overseeing troop morale in 2007 and retired in 2010, citing health problems.
