Illegal Pop Star Gigs

A general producer of a company that organizes concerts of pop stars was accused of earning 21 million rubles ($714,000) through illegally staged performances — and spending the earnings to boost her own musical career.

The Interior Ministry did not name any suspects in its statement Monday, but said they work for LAP Company, whose web site identifies its general producer as Yana Chertkova.

The producers organized concerts without informing the company’s head or paying any taxes off the earnings. The musicians were paid in cash, and the signature of LAP’s chief on related paperwork was falsified, the ministry said.
